KEEP IN MIND

ATTIRE

Gentlemen: Dress code is formal, no need to wear a tuxedo, but a suit is preferred.

Ladies: It's a night for you to look your most gorgeous! Embrace it and have fun. Wear a long gown or a shorter fancy cocktail dress.

Keep in mind that the weather in Colorado, and especially in the mountains, can change at an instant. On the big day, we expect either radiant blue skies and sunshine, or perhaps a little rain, which they say is good luck on your wedding day. Keep sunscreen and sunglasses handy, and possibly an umbrella or a rain jacket.

Altitude & Weather

We love that you made the journey out to Colorado to celebrate our big day with us. We want your visit to be as enjoyable as possible, therefore here are a few things to keep in mind while taking in Vail and the Rockies.

ALTITUDEThe town of Vail sits at approximately 8,125 feet above sea level, and the wedding deck where the ceremony will take place sits at 10,350 feet above sea level.

This can be a big change for anyone, especially those residing at sea level. The good news is that most people won't notice the altitude at all, though no one should be surprised to find themselves breathing a little heavier. That is true for the village, but what about the wedding deck? Again, most guests won't notice much of a difference, as the gondola will take you comfortably to the top of the mountain. We won't be above 10,000 feet for very long and the majority of that time will involve relaxing while taking in the views and our ceremony.

  • Drink plenty of water. While this doesn't really have anything to do with combating the ill effects of altitude, Colorado is a very dry state and only more so as you climb into the mountains. Your body will need more water and we recommend doubling your water intake 48 hours before you arrive.
  •  Diamox or Advil. Know that you will have trouble with the altitude? Talk to your doctor about Diamox and altitude tips in general before heading to the Rockies. Try taking 125mg of Ginko Biloba twice a day starting 5 days before your trip, or just bring extra Advil.

WEATHER - August in the Rockies is known for its moderate temperatures. With an average daily high of 76 degrees in the Vail Valley and an average daily low of 42 degrees, you will wish you had shorts and a tee shirt as well as jeans and down jacket.

The mountains are also known for afternoon thunderstorms. Thunderstorms tend to depart as quickly as they arrive, but you still don't want to be caught in one without an umbrella or rain jacket when they do show up.

Also, be sure to wear lots of sunscreen and wear sunglasses. The sun is intense at higher altitude even when it isn't hot outside.
